only if it's off
The plastic body of the battery, or one of the terminals, yes, BUT... disconnected from the vehicle or not, DO NOT allow any metallic object to touch BOTH of the battery's terminals [Positive and Negative] AT THE SAME TIME.
This is because that touching both terminals at the same time with any conducting metal such as a wrench will create a SHORT CIRCUIT, and COULD cause the battery to explode, throwing shrapnel and battery acid everywhere for several feet around the shorted battery.
it`s best that he wouldn't do this but if he does the battery will melt or explode or the wrench will melt the car can even burst in to flames.
Always hook up the red or positive cable first, otherwise you could cause a short between the battery and the car through your wrench. Ths of course could cause an explosion or other problems. The black or negative cable goes straight to the engine and the car's frame, so your wrench can touch the frame when you are tightening the cable end on the battery with no worry.
Disconnect the battery cable, you do not have to touch the battery.
A spark, a ruined battery and possible an exploding battery.
use a 10mm wrench and remove the battery from the trunk compartment, and replace it with the new battery
touch the wires to the battery terminal
there is a clamp holding the battery in place.Use a socket wrench and remove it.Disconnect the negative line first make sure it does not touch anything.Disconnect the positive(again don't let it touch anything), lift the old battery out.Install is the reverse
A dead short occurs which can result in the battery exploding A completion in the external circuit of the battery
No, you should remove the negative first. That way if your wrench slips and hits a metal part of the car and the battery at the same time it will not spark. No, you should remove the negative first. Yes. A loose negative battery cable can make a car hard to start. In fact it can make it impossible to start. If you don't have one you can go to a hardware or automobile supply store and purchase an adjustable wrench for a few dollars. With that wrench, you can tighten your cable. That wrench is useful for a number of things. While you are at it, also get a piece of sand paper and clean the battery terminal.
Safety. If you take a wrench and short the positive battery terminal to ground the following will happen: A large spark The Wrench will weld itself in place The wrench will turn red hot and so will your hand. It is now 1/4 second from the short happening, you have ruined the wrench, burnt your hand and are waiting for the battery to explode. The battery may not explode but it has happened, blinding the person working on the car and causing sever acid burns. If you take a wrench and short the Ground or Negative side to ground absolutely nothing happens.
It will throw sparks, melt a spot in the wrench at the point of contact and if it should stick, drain the battery and very likely ruin it. You do this just to check if there is juice in the battery and just for a second.
