Yes, but with a few caveats:

* Re-entry is at the discretion of the border official.

* Passport can not have expired more than 5 years ago.

* It is a good idea to make sure you still look like your passport picture.

You could when entering Mexico, as there is a relaxed attitude towards Americans when traveling to Mexico. However, on your way back to the States, US Homeland Security officers can check your passport status and subject you to interrogation. You should better go straight.

A Canadian cannot cross the border into the United States with an expired passport. Conversely, an American cannot enter Canada with an expired passport. Recently a sports announcer from New York City wanted to fly to Toronto Canada to announce a Baseball game. He was stopped at the US airport in NYC because his passport had expired. I apologize for this edit, but due to terrorism and to prevent it, passports are needed to enter Canada and vice versa. Before the terror fear was acknowledged, no passport was required in traveling from Canada and the USA.

There is no such thing as temporary passport. It is either you have a valid and not expired passport of your country of citizenship or not. You need this valid passport in order to travel to Thailand.

Can a Canadian citizen enter Canada with Malaysian passport and a Canadian citizenship card?

You have the right to enter Canada if you are a Canadian citizen. The passport should prove your identification, and the citizenship card should prove your citizenship - my guess is a strong yes.

As long as you have a valid passport/Nexus card and haven't committed a crime or done anything else to cause you to be denied entry you should be allowed to reenter Canada.

I WANT TO VISIT CANADA THIS WEEKEND FOR 3 DAYS.I HAVE SENT MY US PASSPORT FOR RENEWAL.MY CITIZENSHIP PAPER AND DRIVER LICENCE WILL BE ENOUGH TO CROSS THE BORDER OR NOT?

Yes, and no. Your Citizenship paper and driver license will probably get you into Canada, but if you try to return to the US without your passport you will probably not be admitted. Wait until you have your passport.

Can you enter Canada using an expired Canadian passport?

Yes, in some cases. Many US customs agents only ask for U.S. identification, if you're driving or walking across the border. Since a passport is only ever issued to a citizen, an expired passport would be rebuttable proof of citizenship, which is better than having a driver's license (which can be obtained by a resident alien, in some states).

What Identification do I have to have to travel to Canada from Detroit?

This is from the Canada website I viewed on 7/2/08. I too am from Detroit. "If U.S. citizen travelers to Canada do not have a passport or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under sixteen need only present proof of U.S. citizenship."
