ungeased-dry-worn "Bendix" assembly /within, and part-of the complete
starter assembly/. non-repairable, but once taken out, may be 'saved' by
judiciously applying a heavy grease to areas that spin-slide-rub against,
including the metal round bushing that the gear slams-against at the end
of it's travel. On the bench, you can hot-wire it to see action/hear action.
if still noisy, it may be bushing in the back-cover, that may need a tiny dab
of grease. other-wise, get a 'rebuilt' with a warrantee.
if its cranking but not starting most likely fuel pump
no
I recommend knocking it against a hard surface, such as the ground, to help loosen the lid before you start cranking it.
bad fuel pump relay or fuse
Does the battery have enough cold cranking amps? like 800
Fuel? spark?
If the engine cranks & cranks & cranks before it starts even though it's warmed up already.
Have the intake air temp. sensor checked .Two wired plug on top of intake manifold. Check fuel pump pressure.
Check for codes(possible cam sensor), check fuel pressure bleed down(possible fuel pump).
try the fuel pump relay. idk i'm having problems with my suburban too
I used to have a little trick. Before you start the car, just pump your gas pedal a couple of times, then start your car. Mine used to start right up after this. I'm not sure why my car wouldn't start when cold, but it got me around!
Is it cranking but not firing? Does it sound like there is rushing air as it cranks? Both yes.... You blew the head gasket and/or warped the head and now have no compression. :-(
