if it is the front bearing remove tire cotter key and nut on the axle shaft remove caliper and rotor the bearing assembly is held on by i believe 3 bolts that can be remove from the outside by the studs

You cant service the bearing itself. You have to buy the whole rotor assembly. You looking at $80.00 per side...

Changing a wheel bearing safely requires a large press. On a 1995 Jetta the wheel hub assembly must be removed and the bearing pressed out, just as the replacement unit needs to be pressed in.

It kind of depends on what vehicle you're talking about. On no vehicle (that I know of) will you be able to see the actual bearing unless you take apart the wheel hub, but on some vehicles you will be able to see the wheel bearing assembly whether you're changing tie rod ends or otherwise.

Changing wheel bearing from a 2002 Hyundai Elantra requires removing the hub assembly. The bearing will need to be pressed out and in to confirm and safe install.
