If they are disc brakes it's not an easy job. (Discs were on rear from about '96 -2000) - You will need a special tool to compress and wind the piston in . Can be done with long nose pliers, but very difficult. I can do most car things very quickly, but each rear on these takes me about 2 hours. - valuable tip - clean and de-rust the emergency brake spring and cable thoroughly after replacing the pads.

Yes - Provided that the self adjusters have not seized from rust. That is quite common with drum brakes. Some year Sables have rear disc brakes. Those self adjust also. The Taurus /Sable rear disc adjusters are just as bad at seizing from rust as the drum adjusters. -On occasion I've even had to remove them and fit a whole new adjuster.
