Many Muslims are circumcised however there is no real compulsion in the religion that requires it to be done. It is a tradition for the ignorant and for cowardly brutes that carry it out on children because they realise that it would disappear if there was a choice in the matter.

Muslim males are required to be circumcised. Sometimes this is done soon after birth, and sometimes later, but definitely before puberty.

This practice is according to God revelations to Prophet Abraham (peace upon him). For females, it is not allowed to be circumcised.

Addition: The most common times are: After Birth (Less Commonly than the following), At about 4-7 years old, or just before puberty (11-14 years).

The fact is that even though it has turned into a cultural requirements for many muslims There is no requirement for a muslim to be circumcised according to their orriginal writings, some one made up the legend that mohamad who lived in a society where there was no circumcisio was born circumcises. Thes is a deformity in which people are born with no foreskin, however even if this report is factual( and there is no evidence that it is) it stil does not mean that mohamad was circumcised and the anly way to emulate mohamad would be to be born deformed like he was.

Circumcision is traditional in the religion of Islam. and while there may be some reference to it in the Jewish version of the ancient writings there certainly is none on the Muslim version. No Muslim can honestly say that circumcision is a requirement.

Although circumcision is an integral part of Islam, there are exceptions to those individuals who could not be circumcised as the operation if carried out might be harmful to them or might jeopardise their health.

Among these categories of people include the disabled, infirm, those suffering from chronic illnesses eg:haemophillia or those born naturally circumcised( with little or no foreskin) or become naturally circumcised later owing to the onset of puberty where the foreskin shortens to the extent that it becomes permanently retracted behind the head thus exposing the head.

There is no particular person required to do this. Circumcisers are generally trained by the more experienced circumcisers, and so on. In a more modern setting circumcisions are done by urologists.

Answer 1Yes

It is an obligation for males to be circumcised not only in Islam but also in Judaism. It was God command to prophet Abraham (or Ibrahim) to circumcise his male children.

Answer 2No.

it is not an obligation to be circumcised in either Islam Or for that mater Judaism. And as both the Jewish and the Islam tradition are a response to instructions given in the Torah. there are many Jews that reject the point that the Torah cites the word of God in this instance.

This form of physical abuse of children is unconscionable and it is explained in the following sites why.

In the case of Muslims being circumcised you should read "Muslims against circumcision". In the case of the Jews being circumcised you should read

"Circumcision: A Source of Jewish Pain by Ronald Goldman"

Answer 3 (Muslim's Answer)I will not; as Muslim; talk about circumcision obligation in Judaism or Christianity. However, in Islam it should be said firmly that Muslim male circumcision is obligatory and is one of Islam rites.

Male circumcision is among the rites of Islam and is part of the (in Arabic): fitrah, or the innate disposition and natural character and instinct of the human creation. As-Shawkani said in his book Nayl al-Awtar (1/184):

"What the Prophet (s.A.w.) means by Fitrah is that if these characteristics are followed by a man, he would be described as a man of Fitrah, which Allah (s.w.t.) has gifted his servants with, and encouraged them to follow, so that they attain a high degree of respectability and dignity."

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Five are the acts quite akin to fitrah:Circumcision, clipping or shaving the pubes, cutting the nails, plucking or shaving the hair under the armpits and clipping (or shaving) the moustache." (Reported in Bukhari & Muslim). Allah ordered Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to follow the religion of Ibrahim or Abraham (peace be upon him). When Allah (or God and same God worshiped in Christianity and Judaism) says:

"Then We inspired you: 'Follow the religion of Ibrahim, the upright in Faith'."

(Qur'an 16:123) And part of the religion of Ibrahim is circumcision.

If some scholars are currently against male circumcision based on their own views, then they should not be taken as a reference unless they base their arguments on Muslims Holy Book Quran and/or prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sayings or practices. It is to be recognized also that male circumcision is good for male health, cleanliness, and sex enjoyment.

They both follow the practice of circumcision for their male births.

What two religions practice circumcision?

Circumcision is a requirement of Judaism although there is a small fringe group of mainly non-religious Jews who are choosing to not circumcise their sons. Circumcision is also required by Islam according to the majority of its adherents. Refer to related questions below for more information.

Do you have to undergo circumcision to convert to islam?

NO. Circumcision, though widely practiced in the Islamic World, is a tradition, not a Qur'anic mandate and, therefore, it is perfectly permissible to be an uncircumcised Muslim. The only requisite to convert to Islam is to say the Shahada (Islamic Declaration of Faith) in the presence of other Muslims.

What percentage of Indian males are circumcised?

Very few' As circumcision is a Judaic religious rite that has spilled into the Islam world as well. There is no reason for circumcision and there is no religious compunction in India to engage in this sort of mutilation.

Why Muslims cut their prepuce?

It is called 'circumcision'. Circumcision for males is compulsory per Islam religion (and also Judaism and Christianity) and is practiced since prophet Abraham life when he was commanded by God to perform circumcision for his sons. However, religion doesn't call for female circumcision although it may be practiced in some communities per local traditions and cultures.

Why is routine infant circumcision so popular?

Infant circumcision is far less popular than it used to be. Apart from within Judaism and Islam, infant circumcision is uncommon everywhere in the world except the United States. Even in the United States, circumcision is far less common than it used to be. In the 1980s up to 80% of newborn males in the United States were circumcised. By 2007, the rate of circumcision had dropped to less than 40%. The large drop is due in part to the recognition that there is no known medical benefit to circumcision.

Why is it okay to circumcise a male but not okay to circumcise a female?

Updated Answer (from Islamic Perspective)Male circumcision is compulsory, per Islam and Jeudaism religions following God commands to Prophet Abraham. Female circumcision is not religion requirement in Islam. In addition, male circumcision does not negatively affect the degree of feeling pleasure during doing sex. However, female circumcision affects negatively and dramatically the degree of feeling pleasure during doing sex.AnswerI think its because male circumcision is less disfiguring than female circumcision, which amounts to genital mutilation. Male circumcision has roots in Judiasm and onward into Islam. Therefore, it is a religious rite for about 20% of the world. In addition, in the USA anti- masturbation forces thought circumcision the answer to excessive self- satisfaction of the male glands. Both female and male circumcision in my eyes are barbaric rituals that are bogus. The majority of the worlds men do not accept circumcision as the foreskin plays an important part of the maintenance and performance of the penis. The reason it is not being looked down upon the degree that it should be is because it is a Jewish tradition and Jews have a large influence over editorial in the mainstream media of the west. They are both genital mutilation though.

What happens if you are still not circumcised?

Nothing. There is no medical reason for circumcision, and the vast majority of men in the world are not circumcised. Circumcision is practiced by some ethnic and religious groups including by Jews and in certain sects of Islam. However, most other religions, including Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism, do not practice circumcision.

Does Islam incorporate Judaism?

It can be argued that Islam copied / incorporated some parts of Judaism, as Islam began about 2,000 years later than Judaism. Similar practices include multiple daily prayers, restrictions on what foods can be eaten and circumcision. Both religions claim to be descendants of the biblical Abraham; Islam from his oldest son Ismael, Judaism from his second son Isaac.
