The Vietnam War, like Korea, WWII, WWI, were largely fought by conscripted (drafted) men. Desert Storm, and the current Irag conflict has been fought by an all volunteer military. The fact is that the majority of us that served in Vietnam, were RA (enlisted), especially in the early years,1960-1967. At wars end,the DoD stated that 54% of Vietnam Vets, were volunteers. A questionare was sent to Vietnam vets asking if they would do it again and 75% answered YES,even knowing the end result. So please get facts before posting. Vietnam was NOT largely fought by Draftees but volunteers. The ones that were drafted, fought and died as valorous as any troops of any war and that too is a fact.

Vietnam was a conventional war using all conventional weapons (no atomic weapons). B-52 bombers accounted for untold thousands of NVA (North Vietnamese Army) lives. Over 7 million tons of high explosives (bombs) were dropped during the war; only 2 million tons were dropped by US forces during all of WWII. No such bombing is or has ever taken place in the Iraqi region. Vietnam casualties have been estimated to be in the millions.

WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Wars were fought between nations (countries). Iraq and Afghanistan does not involve combat between nations (the US is not at war with Iraq/Afghanistan).

1. Iraq-The restoration of law, order, and stability to the region.

2. Afghanistan-Hunting down terrorists (criminals) responsible for 9/11.

The US and allies were at war with Another Country (North Vietnam). The US is not at war with Iraq nor Afghanistan. Nor are the capitals of Iraq nor Afghanistan being negotiated with nor are they being bombed by American bombers, nor are allied bombers being shot down by ground defense systems.
