No, you would not fall off the earth if it stopped spinning. Earth's gravity, which holds you onto the planet now, will still hold you onto itself.if wat u mean is lik if the earth suddenly stopped spinning would u fall off;obviously impossible, but if it was to happen u would not fall off but u would get shot a few miles in the direction that the eaarth was spinning before due to ur enertia (aka an object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by another force... lik the wall). tht would b cool though if u didnt die from it. and even cooler if u were in a helecopter. o.o if u were hovering still in Connecticut, the next second you'd b in lik new york. ud b lik wtf? this thing has more kick than i thought. so to answer ur question briefly, if the earth suddenly stopped spinning, u would not fall off... but it would b very painful.

but if u mean tht if the earth stopped spinning would there still b gravity, then yes there would still b gravety. all matter makes gravity. spinning doesnt make gravity. gravity is caused by the way tht matter creates a warp in the fabric of space time. other objects tend to fall into it if close enough. (u make gravity too)

If the Earth was to magically stop spinning, gravity would not be affected at all. In fact, the centrifugal effect of the Earth's spinning serves to reduce, by some negligible amount, the apparent weight of objects. So, if the Earth stopped spinning things would seem to weigh a tiny fraction more.

Of course, any force powerful enough to stop the Earth from spinning would destroy the planet and all life on it, so it's just as well that the Earth should keep spinning!

The earth spins because of the left over momentum of solar nebulae that exploded out of a supernova of a previous huge mass of matter. Nebulae in reasonably close vicinity of each other underwent nuclear fusion once collected together (under influence of gravity). The force of momentum created by the supernova meant some nebulae moved closer, whilst some moved further away from one another depending on the force of gravity relative to momentum, and the distance between nebulae. Eventually the two inter-composing forces reached equilibrium between planets, meaning they all orbit the largest mass causing the largest gravitational pull, exceeding momentum. This happens to be the sun, creating solar systems. At one point in our solar system all the planets were spinning in the same direction, due to the same amount of force of momentum being exerted by the supernova. Now, of course, some planets in our solar system rotate in varying directions and at varying speeds due to collisions of meteorites e.g. the (debatable) theory of the moon colliding with the Earth causing its 23 degree axis.

The very formation of the Earth, solar system, galaxy constitutes the spinning of planets such as the Earth from momentum and so this question is not only hypothetical but nonsensical, but thought provoking regardless.

If the earth were to rotate at the same rate as the sun then one half of the earth would receive no sunlight and would freeze, being colder than today's Antarctic. In turn, this would have a profound effect on the general atmospheric circulation system and pressure cells. It is impossible to predict what conditions this would bring due to the overwhelmingly complex interrelating factors of the Earth's climate. One side of the earth would be significantly hotter than today, the other far colder, making the Earth uninhabitable.

Gravity is not dependent on rotation, but on the mass. The Earth's gravity would remain the same if it stopped rotating. However, we might FEEL slightly more gravity, because there would be no more centrifugal force.
