If the DSL internet connection is not automatically connecting to the computer on a cold boot, it could be a problem with the modem. Try resetting the modem while the computer is off. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until all lights stop blinking, then boot up the computer. If this does not work, get a new modem.
