What was Vietnamization?

No one used to say, "Republic of South Vietnam", or "I'm going to South Vietnam", it was usually said as, "I'm going to Vietnam", hence the word Vietnam...when in reality we were headed for SOUTH Vietnam, Vietnam was two separate countries. North and South Vietnam were simply countries in the south eastern portion of Asia (on the continent of Eurasia). You certainly weren't going to NORTH Vietnam. Not unless you were either an aircrewman or pilot. Those men actually fought in the skies of NORTH Vietnam. Aerial dog-fights (air combat) over South Vietnam rarely if ever happened. Nearly, if not all, of our POWs were airmen shot down over NORTH Vietnam.

What happened to the democratic government in Vietnam?

Vietnam has never had a democratic government, so nothing has ever happened to this non-existent entity. If you are referring to the Republic of Vietnam (often called South Vietnam), which was a regime in the south of Vietnam from 1954-1975, this country was not a democracy. Although it has the word "Republic" in its name, it was really a state ruled by a strongman who was deeply beholden to US interests. As for what happened to this country, when the US withdrew military forces from Vietnam in 1973, the North Vietnamese Army overran the defenses of South Vietnam and conquered the country, bringing Vietnam into united Communist rule.

When and how did the Vietnam war end?

The war officially ended for the United States with the Paris Peace Accords of January 1973. The main stipulation dictated that American troops would leave and that North Vietnam would not attack South Vietnam. It is widely known that the U.S. and North Vietnam secretly negotiated a specific time-frame upon which the North could eventually invade the South without making it look like the U.S. had simply abandoned its South Vietnamese allies. Whatever the negotiation, the North invaded in April 1975. By then, the Americans did nothing to defend the South, and the nation of Vietnam was reunified for the first time since 1954. It has remained so ever since.

How long have North and South Korea been fighting?

Ever since 1951, when North Korea invaded South Korea.

What events and conditions caused growing conflicts between north and south Vietnam?

There was a threat of south Vietnam becoming communist .. and we of all countries did not want this to happen... it was known as the "domino effect" (named by President Eisenhower). This means that if one country falls to communism, they all will. What basically started all of the war was when a U.S. ship entered the Gulf of Tonkin. Northern Vietnam felt in danger because of our presence, so they fired at us. We had a reason to fire back so we did.

What events and conditions caused growing conflicts between North Vietnam and South Vietnam?

The main problem between North and South Vietnam was the agreement between both parties that South Vietnam should have elections shortly after the forming of the country. No elections were ever held in South Vietnam, if they had been, the country would have been unified much earlier without the many thousands of deaths caused by the war.

What was the Vietnam War?

The Vietnam Conflict, popularly known as the Vietnam War (also known as the Second Indochina War and colloquially as Vietnam or Nam as well as the American War or Khng chiến chống Mỹ [lol in English please], the Resistance War Against America in Vietnam) was a conflict in which the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRVN, or North Vietnam) and its allies fought against the Republic of Vietnam (RVN, or South Vietnam) and its allies. North Vietnam's allies included the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. South Vietnam's main allies included the United States, South Korea and Australia all of who deployed large numbers of troops. US combat troops were involved from 1959 until their official withdrawal in 1973. A large number of civilian casualties resulted from the war, which ended on April 30, 1975 with the capitulation of South Vietnam. It was a war in which the united states got into to fight off communism The Vietnam War was a war based on the separation of the country Vietnam. North Vietnam was communist and South Vietnam was Republic. The Fighting started when North Vietnam wanted to unite the North and the South and establish a communist government. The United States stepped in and backed up the South. The fighting started with the North saying they were going to unite the country and the South and the US saying that they were fighting off communist. The US drafted soldiers to the war and many of them died. After, 15 years of fighting North Vietnam won and established a unified but communist Vietnam. The Vietnam war is considered to be the only war that the US has ever lost.

Who did the Vietcong fight fight for in the Vietnam War?

The Viet Cong (VC) were Communist sympathizers living in SOUTH Vietnam. Very organized, wearing what-ever uniforms and using what-ever weapons they could get their hands on; and fighting primarily as organized guerillas against the Government of South Vietnam. The VC were pretty well destroyed as a fighting force during the TET offensive of 1968; and the war fairly well shifted to the NVA (North Vietnamese Army), after 1968.

Is Vietnam a part of Indonesia?

In the past. yes. As two countries were both separated into two parts. North Vietnam & North Korea were both backed up by Soviet Union and China while South Vietnam and South Korea were backed up by the United States. Then Vietnam reunified in April 1975 while Korea has never been able to reunify ever since the separation. Vietnam and Korea shares a lot of similar traits in culture and tradition. Currently, South Korea is the 15th largest economy in the world, Vietnam is the 56th, North Korea is the 125th.
