Labradoodles were originally bred as guide dogs in Victoria, Australia in the year 1988 by the Royal Guide Dogs. A blind woman in Hawaii had a husband that was allergic to dog hair (not dandruff, Labradoodles of the curly variety are non-allergenic for people that are allergic to dog hair only) and she requested a guide dog. Three generations of Labradoodles were bred at first, and a surprising 29 out of the 31 dogs bred became guide dogs. Rutland Manor in Darnum, Victoria and Teagan Park in Seaspray, Victoria were later founded to research and continue the breed.
