SEATO means South East Asia Treaty Organization and is Asia's counterpart to Europe's NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organizaton). North & South Vietnam were divided by an agreement between the Free World and the Communist World in 1954, at the end of the French Indo-China War (also referred to as the First Indo-China War). The "Paris Peace Accord" signed in 1973, ended the US involvement in the Vietnam War.
