Not chillies, those came from America and were introduced after the discovery of America. The Romans imported spices from and India, and the Middle East: ginger, black pepper (believed by the Romans to be a stimulant) cloves, nutmeg (both were believed by the Romans to be (appetite stimulants) cardamon and coriander and cumin.
