The Olympics were held as any other Olympics. The one held in Salt Lake was not sponsored by the Mormons and played no part in the American peoples acceptance of Mormons. Their acceptance is because of their high moral standards and family unity

What is the role of Mormon religion in America's society?

The role of Mormons today in America's society is be a good examples to everyone they meet. Teach our children, family members and friends by example to be morally strong, honest people. Mormons don't proclaim to be perfect but we do know what is right and wrong. This does not mean we always do what is right because we make mistakes too. Again, our role is to teach and live our lives in a way that we show love, and humility to the society.

Why were the people persecuting the mormens?

People are naturally hostile against those who appear 'different' from themselves. Mormons are persecuted by people who believe that they are too different to be accepted into society. Historically, the worst persecution was in the 1830's and 1840's, when Mormons were forced from their homes four times - in New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. Often this was because the local residents were afraid that Mormons would become the majority and sway local politics. Also many people did not like that Mormonism was not a traditional Christian religion. Today, persecution against Mormons is mostly done by those who misunderstand the teachings of the church or by those who disagree with the conservative standards of Mormons.
