The settlers were, in fact, both British. Jamestown settlers were mainly from London (England). However, 50% of the Jamestown settlers were classed as "gentlemen". These were not working class men but were landowners and people who did not do manual labour. This caused issues as they did not have the necessary skills like carpenters, builders farmers and blacksmith which were needed to initiate the building of the colony.
The difference between the Jamestown government and the Plymouth was that the Jamestown weren't so friendly with the Indians, the men didn't work, disease was spreading among them, and the water they drank was impure. Also they only came with men to Jamestown and then after John Smith came to govern, that's when the ladies finally came and they established a colony.
Agriculture
Homesteading gave people the chance to own land simply by claiming it, and working to farm the land.
The founders of Jamestown wanted money. SO England gave them 4 ships, The nina, the pinta, and the santa maria. The settlers were trying to find gold and silver, but instead they found marshy lands, a lot of mosquito and contaminated water. But, thanks to a very strong leader (captain john smith) helped them survive! So basically they wanted money$$$ silver and gold :)
well they get there money by working but, when they dont get money instead they trade

Some problems that appeared were that early colonists looked for treasure instead of making homes and gardens and realized this mistake too late, and the malarial swamps teeming with mosquitoes, the brackish water that they drank, and extreme hostility from the Native Americans and a harsh climate. Another factor was the "gentlemen" which where the large portion of the settlers that did not want to work and had less experience working.

Jamestown. Simple answer.
Jamestown was full of people who weren't used to working for everything themselves. They needed hard-working people, especially farmers who knew the American land so that they could make food and workers who could build houses and lumberjacks for wood to stay warm through the winter. -Dmsds365
actually john rolfe introduced the American crop tobacco to the colony. This crop did save Jamestown. Also, they offered 50 acres of land to any man, woman, or child who could pay their way to Jamestown, which lead to a higher population. that is true but they where the first colony were everyone didnt die.
