It is possible for all alligator gars to be changed into females. It is possible that, like wrasses, alligator gars begin life at males, then change into females as they become larger and older. The fish become sexually mature males at around age six, but continue to grow and become female at around 100 pounds, at age 11.

Can an alligator eat a shark?

Last answer was false. All gars are apex predators. They eat whatever will fit into their mouths, just like an alligator. Gars eat alligators, and alligators can eat gars. An alligator will attack something bigger than it can eat in one sitting and sink it to the bottom and store it. A gar is a fish, and as such they are mobile and snatch what they can eat and run. If you're talking about a 300 pounder or in ancient times a 600 pound 15 footer, you had better bet they can eat a 6 foot gator. Gars and gators have lived together for millions of years. They eat each others young but they both survived.

What is an alligator gar and were does it live?

ANSWERAlligator Gars are the largest out of all Gars. They can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 pounds. They have long narrow bodies, and a long bill. This bill is why they are called "Alligator" Gars as it looks a lot like the snout of an alligator. They are usually olive-green in coloration with a white to cream underside. They have very prominent scales.Alligator Gars mainly have a diet of fish but they will take a snatch at an occasional small turtle, carrion, or water fowl. Alligator Gars live in the South Eastern parts North America and throughout Central America. In North America they are usually found as far North as the Mississippi River Basin and as far West as Texas and into parts of Oklahoma. They are also found throughout Mexico. They tend to live in slow moving rivers where there is lots of protection for their young. They are also found in lakes, bays, and bayous. They have the interesting ability to be able to stand brackish and salt water for several days.ANSWERThe alligator gar is the largest member of the Gar family, reaching (occasionally) a length of 10 feet and a weight of 300 pounds, though two-thirds of that size is considered a very large specimen. They are fairly common in the lower Mississippi drainage. A local name for them in the deep South is "Oarfish", as they frequently bask near the surface, and resemble a floating boat oar. Gar and Bowfin are two North American fish that existed - almost unchanged from their present state - at the time the great dinosaurs roamed the earth. Their have primitive ganoid triangular scales, almost as hard as flint. They are gill breathers, like most fish, but can gulp enough oxygen to live as much as two hours out of the water. Despite their crocodile-like looks, they are sluggish and harmless if left alone. They have been found in some places in Asia and Oceana, but are very rare outside of North America. Their flesh is edible, but the milt and roe of all gar is poisonous, and must not be eaten.

Kodiak vs. aligator?

I think a Kodiak could pick up an alligator and chomp it right in the abdomen and that would be all of the alligator. On the other hand, the alligator, when picked up by the bear might snap around and take the bear's paw off rendering the bear helpless in controlling the alligator.
