No. AMC used a 4cyl Audi engine in the late 70's, a GM 4cyl after that until sometime in 1983 and a GM 6cyl in early Jeep Cherokees. A 8cyl Packard engine was used for a couple of years in the mid fifties. AMC designed and built the rest of their engines, except some aluminum engines that were built by a subcontractor in the early 60's. They even had their own engine foundry in Sarnia Ontario Canada
