No, ALL dogs make dander. So do all humans. It is just dead skin cells falling off (dandruff). Those people with Asthma and Allergies may also be allergic to the proteins in the urine or saliva, which also should be considered. Dogs that shed only lightly and less often usually do not pose as much of a problem because the dander, saliva, urine, on the shed coat is more easily kept controlled. There is no dog that is truly hypoallergenic but some are better than others. See the related questions.

With proper grooming care that is correct for your dog and with regular use of dander shampoo, there could be less of a problem, but each person's response will vary dog to dog (even within the same breed).

All dogs have dander. Dander is dead skin flakes. This comes off all skin as it is replaced by new skin from underneath. Healthy skin does not flake excessively, and brushing and washing help to remove dead skin.

Some dense coats on dogs may retain more dander than light coats and therefore require more brushing.

Excessive flaking skin can be caused by a poor diet, fungus or disease, harsh or too frequent washing, or poor brushing or washing.

A healthy dog well looked after dog should not have a dander problem, but may still be unsuitable for people with dog allergies.

no dogs are dander free. Some have less dander but none are 100% free of dander. small dogs with hair instead of fur that don't shed tend to produce less dander. Yorkies and Maltese are nice dogs to have if you are allergic to dander but you can still be allergic to them. Poodles are supposed to be hypoallergenic but my dad is allergic to dander and poodles bother his allergies the most. be sure to spend a little time with an adult Maltese or Yorkie if you want to buy them first. be sure it is an adult because puppies have less dander.

What does the phrase dander up mean?

When someone gets their dander up they are angry or excited. Saying 'Don't get your dander up' means relax or calm yourself down.I suspect it comes from dogs. Dark haired dogs will show their dander when upset (it can happen during a thunderstorm, or when upset at a strange dog, etc.). The appearance of white dander flakes on black fur is quite noticeable and led to the saying.

Can you be allergic to only German Shepherds and no other breed of dog?

Yes. Dogs can be allergic to other dogs. Specially if one dog has longer hair and is outside often. It puts pollen onto the dogs coat and if the dogs play together or lick each other the pollen causes allergies.

What is the best dog to buy for people allergic to dog saliva and dander?

I have been looking into dogs with little dander because my dad is like extremely allergic to dander. two that i was interested in were a Yorkshire terrier or a Maltese. These dogs both have hair not fur and don't shed. I was in love when i saw the picture of a Yorkie! Maltese are also adorable, both small dogs. because they are small they don't have as much dander as big dogs. Just make sure you bathe your dog regularly so that they don't have as much dander. Hairless dogs would work too but they aren't as cute. Poodles are good hypoallergenic too. Here is a link to more info- dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm

What are the dogs that a child with allergies can have?

Really small, gentle dogs that don't shed too much or hairless dogs if they want one A child who is "allergic to dogs" is actually allergic to pet dander (dry skin shed by all animals, like dandruff). There really is no dog (or cat) that does not produce dander.
