There is a high degree of latent Anti-Semitism in Turkey and certainly open Anti-Zionism, even though the government of Turkey and Israel have had relations since 1949. Latent Anti-Semitism means that while Turkish Muslims will not usually go out of their way to vilify Jews or make their lives more difficult (there are certainly a small minority who do, though), they hold many seriously damaging stereotypes about Jews and see them less favorably than a fellow Muslim. A perfect corollary to this latent Anti-Semitism would be the way that Blacks are treated by White citizens in the United States. Most US Whites do not go out of their way to act "racistly" towards Blacks, but will hold stereotypes about Blacks that are damaging and see them less favorably than fellow Whites.

Anti-Semitism in Turkey is discussed in this Pew Global Survey from 2008, which says in relevant part: "Attitudes toward Jews have turned considerably more negative in Turkey in recent years. About half of Turks (49%) held an unfavorable view in 2004, while today roughly three-in-four (76%) express this sentiment. In the last two years alone, unfavorable views have risen from 65% to 76%. Turkish opinion on this issue is generally quite consistent across demographic groups. For example, 77% of those under age 50 have an unfavorable opinion of Jews, as do 75% of older Turks. Similarly, people with a college education (78%) are about as likely to express negative views as those who have not attended college (76%)."
