No, you do not have to remove the bracket to remove and replace the alternator. There are the two main bolts under the alternator which thread into the bracket on the back side that hold the alternator in place. After that, only a 13mm nut securing a wire (back side) and a plug (bottom, back side) which has 4-6 wires.

To loosen the alternator belt (which may be confusing you) you must put a wrench or socket on the tensioner pulley and pry counter clock-wise. This will allow you to slip the belt off of the alternator pulley (should be done first during removal, last during replacement)

I am replacing the alternator on my 1994 Mazda MX6. I have got the alternator unbolted but I can not remove the alternator through-bolt because it hits the bulkhead. Is there a method to remove bolt?

You don't need to remove the bolt. The mounting bracket is slotted so that you only need to withdraw the bolt a small way and then pull the alternator and the bolt will come out through the slot.

What are step by step instuctions on replacing a Tracker's alternator ex where is the tension adjuster?

HI, I'll take this right from my book which covers from '86-'98. Disconnect the Neg battery cable Label and detach all wiring from the alternator Remove the evap charcoal canister and mounting bracket from the engine compartment Loosen the mounting bolts, then remove the alternator drive belt from the pulley While supporting the alternator, remove the mounting bolts and lift the alternator up and out of the engine compartment To Install: Hold the alternator in position, then install the mounting bolts finger-tight position the alternator belt on the pulley then adjust the drive belt. Using a padded pry bar, push the alternator away from the engine until the belt has the proper tension ( about 1/4 - 1/3 in deflection under thumb pressure) Tighten the alternator mounting bolts to 17ft lbs (23 Nm) if you have a torque wrench, otherwise real tight but not so tight that you'll strip the threads in the alternator Reattach all wiring to the alternator Reinstall the evap charcoal mounting bracket and canister Connect the neg battery cable You'll need to readjust the clock and redo your radio settings
