Not in many place, but copies of diplomas in training of some sort helps to put prospective clients at easy. There are programs available to help a person interested in this field to learn what is necessary. My wife has taken many courses and does it all from decor, to sewing, to floral, to dance instruction, to MC teaching, to helping write vows, to planning pre-wedding parties, to bartending, Etc. Experience and expertize go hand in hand like most things. She never ceases to amaze me how she remembers even the tiniest detail from first meeting of a couple or clients. Even how to talk to a pushy Mother....

I would think you would not need a "planning" license but maybe, a general business license. Check with your city, township, etc.

There is such as thing as a weddingprofessionals license and it is a good idea to get. Many planners are also apart of a wedding assosication which is also a good idea if you are from a larger regoin. These are especially important to have if you have never done a wedding before. You will have no creditability to your name with out either a years fews internship under a skilled wedding planner of having a license.

If you do your homework you can plan an awsome wedding yourself. Use your resouces, like the wedding magazines checklist, internet (hundreds of ideas). You need organizing skills and be able to give orders in a firm polite way. You definitely need to be able to stay within your budget.

A wedding planner can work with your budget and you will be a calmer bride. A big JOB!
