rough idle could be caused by the Throttle Position Sensor that's located on the passenger side of the throttle body or the Idle Air Control Valve that's on the front of the Throttle Body.
Another possibility is intermittent wiring problems, check the wiring exiting from the distributor base, it is prone to damage. Other places where wiring gets damaged in old cars such as my spirit R/T 1991, are the connector wiring that connects to the AIS valve and/or the connector to the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). another one to check is the connector on the Coolant Temperature Sensor that gets disconnected everytime the ignition timing is adjusted, such that it tends to break the wires under the insulation, close to the connector. I recently changed the E.G.R. valve on my 1990 Dodge Spirit 2.5L (non-turbo). Now it is quiet @ idle & starts right up. I also notice an improvement in the gas mileage. Good Luck.
The Dodge ram 1500 rough idle can because by a bad spark plug or spark plug wire. The rough idle can also because by a bad camshaft.

Rough idle on a 99 Dodge Stratus is often caused by a clogged fuel filter or injectors. This prevents the engine from receiving enough fuel when needed.
No, the computer controlls that.
change the plugs and wires
Check for a vacuum leak
Why does my 2001 kia sportage idle rough?

Automatic idle sensor on the throttle body left side facing the engine from the front of the car.
When the idle goes rough, you must idle the plugs. Else the car plugs roughly.
