The area once known as Mesopotamia is now covered by several Middle Eastern countries, which include Iraq, Jordan, Eastern Iran, Southern Turkey and the far North of Saudi Arabia. The ancient kingdom of Mesopotamia covered all of this area- in more modern times (i.e. up until the late 1920s) the nation now called Iraq was called Mesopotamia, although it was far smaller than the original kingdom of the ancient world.
