No, the 1994 Mercury Sable does not use R12 for recharging the A/C unit. The 1994 Mercury Sable uses R134a Freon.
You should be able to find a sticker on the underside of the hood that will tell you. It should be R134a.
check fuse 22
near the firewall on the passenger side
I found the low pressure ac port on my 2001 sable by the passenger side firewall.
It came from the factory with R12. Due to the high cost of R12, I would have it converted to R134.
The AC clutch cannot be replaced without physically removing the compressor on a 1997 Mercury Sable. The compressor and magnetic plate must be removed before you can access the clutch.
More than likely R12 but the 1994 Honda Accord can have either R12 or R134. Look on the A/C condenser or evaporator for a label listed the refrigerant.
If the AC is on, this is normal.

it is a mid year split in 1994. 1993 should all have been r12.
I'd assume R134a since R-12 was banned in 1994.
if you mean re-routing the belt in some way to avoid the a/c compressor...then no..you cannot...
