It does but it is VERY hidden. To check the fluid level, you must first drive the car for at least 30 minutes. Now park on a level surface and leave the engine running. Shift the gear selector through all the positions, then back into Park, leaving it in each position for 10 seconds. After that leave the engine running and open the hood. Look by the air intake. It is covered by a hose. It has a round handle that is yellow. Carefully shove the hose out of the way. There should be a metal clip holding the dipstick in. Push the clip back and pull out the dipstick. Wipe it off and put it back in. Pull it back out and look at the fluid level. It should be between the ADD and FULL marks on the HOT side. The difference between the two marks is 3/4 cup (6 ounces). Do NOT overfill. If you need to add fluid, you MUST use JWS 3309, such as Mobil ATF 3309, which is the same thing as the $30 a quart fluid from Volvo. If you need to add fluid, DO NOT EVER REMOVE THAT "FILL PLUG" looking bolt on top of the transmission. It is not a "fill plug" at all. If you do, 3RD gear will not work unless you pay $4000 to have it rebuilt. Add the fluid through the dipstick hole.
WARNINGS: 1. Do not touch the fluid on the dipstick. It is hot. It will burn you very badly. 2. Be careful so you do not get caught in moving parts. 3. Do not burn yourself on the hot parts. 4. Use a perfectly clean funnel. One speck of dust could cause serious damage. Good luck!
