your ecm could be going bad or need to be reprogramed when you turn your key on the ecm resets
no the prom is fixed it only resets ( program read only memory)
you will need the ecm that goes with that motor, or have your ecm reprogramed but i dont know were you can have that done.
no but static electricity can ruin a ecu or ecm by just tuching it. you should wear gloves or a metal bracelet that is grounded to the vehicle to prevent damage. They are extremely sensitive.
The powertrain control module needs to have code cleared or reprogramed to replacement transmission
you will need to have your computer reprogramed to adjust timing, fuel mixture etc
No you should be fine if you didn't unhook the battery for a long period of time. The OBD 2 ECM is alot better and smarter then the older OBD 1 ECM. If the Check Engine light still stays on then you will need it tested and cleared. Unhooking the battery will not clear any codes. The learning process is done after 10 miles or so. If it starts and runs fine then your ok but if the alarm and keyless entry does not work if equiped then you will need to take it to the dealer to be reprogramed.
You need to be more specific. What about the ECM are you testing?
usally all that needs to be done is the pcm needs reprogramed but a technition will need to do it.
He reprogramed him
More info is needed. Interchange with *what*? A good parts supplier can identify cross references if you provide the vehicles VIN no. Be careful....a 4 cylinder ECM will most likely NOT work with a V6 or V8 ECM. Most ECM's come "dumb". That is, they have no Eprom or Calpack installed. When replacing an ECM, you need to change the Eprom and/or Calpack from the original over to the replacement. Fairly easy to do, requires a chip puller (9.95 at Radio Shack, probably 850.00 at GM's tool dept. And of course, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST TO PREVENT TOASTING OF NEW ECM.
Great question. Turns out -- after 2 hours of confirming this - that a PCM and an ECM are the same. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is the early name, updated by Ford in the mid 90s to Engine Control Module (ECM). When you go on ebay or a parts website you'll search for ECMs for your model, year and engine size. All ECMs are programmed for year, engine size, transmission and emission control standards so you'll need a match. Getting your ECM code and finding one like is one of those things you'll probably need expert help with ... an ECM replacement project is not for the faint of heart.
