Yes you can install a used PCM, but it must be flashed to the correct program for your VIN number

The PCM is very tricky I have gone thru 3 and am now on my 4th There is a company Auto Computer Exchange who sells them for around 150.00 already flashed. You must have the PCM flashed by your Vin# every Cars brain is different. So my answer is no a 2002 PCM will not work.

If you are putting it on the same make model as it came from it will not need to be FLASHED, If it will work on the vehicle you are working on but came from A different model vehicle you are working on I would try it first, Before I pay to have it flashed, If you hook it up and it needs flashed it will not hurt anything, It just means that it spoke A different language, and you must send it to school (FLASH IT). Where is the pcm on a 2001 Saturn l series?
If its not under the hood behind the battery . The whole top part or your dash comes apart and is located behind the cluster panel . The PCM is located behind the glove compartment(the G.C.lid would have to come off-unscrew the spring loaded hinge at the bottom of it)) The connector with cables comes in from the engine compartment.The cowel (the plastic cover with many holes of the area right bellow the windshield) has to be removed by partially removing windshield's bottom trim. 4 screws hold down rubber boot of the cables and then 2 more screws hold the connectors securely to the body of PCM. The PCM need to come out through glove compartment after disconnecting cables. First there is 1 plastic pin, holding air duct to the PCM. Pin head is on the bottom of the duct at the end of it. Just pull it down and out. PCM is inside plastic"envelope",which needs to be loosened(2 screws on sides towards the top of PCM-looking through glove compartment opening. Further there are 2 plastic tabs behind the metal ears for screws ,which needs to be depressed towards the center of of PCM.(use small screwdriver or allen wrench or just small metal or hard plastic rod. Then it just drops down(not coming up through the hole!)Before pulling it out you will also need to disconnect the ECM, which is attached by 2 tabs to the PCM plastic"envelope"(i.e. cover box). ECM is much smaller and has like 3 smaller connectors-no need to disconnect that. P.S. Unless you are sure,the PCM is bad and you need to change it, do not pull it! It can be flashed,but it must be in the car. Cannot be flashed loose out of vehicle!

there are no marks because your cars timing is triggered by a crank and cam position sensor.the timing is controlled by the cars computer or pcm the timing is checked by a pcm scanner that plugs into your cars obd2 data port . your computer can be flashed to give you more power and performance but that's another story.
