counter clockwise. It is almost impossible to remove it with a wrench unless you can keep the engine from turning with it when you try to remove it.

The crankshaft spins counter-clockwise on a 1997 Honda. To remove the bolt for the main pulley spin the bolt clockwise.
Most crankshaft pully bolts on European engines turn anti clockwise to undo them.
Turn the bolt to the left to remove it.

put the car in drive and crankshaft wont turn anymore. then you can take off the bolt
The big 1 and 7/16" nut turns counterclockwise to remove it.
