I can't tell you how long it will take to heal, but I can tell you what to do to help it. The best home remedy I know for it is to make a mixture out of sugar (the best is caster sugar as it is gentle and can get deeper into the skin), honey (preferably manuka honey), and apple cider vinegar, then scrub it (not too hard) on the face. Leave it for around 20 minutes to half an hour. I sometimes also add a few drops of lavender or tea tree oil to the mix. There's a link to it below under "Related links."

Also, use vitamin E cream on the scar, but don't put it elsewhere, because it does increase risks of breakouts.

I know it sounds weird, but if your scar is still relatively new, cold sore cream may help heal it.

I've heard bio-oil is good, but I can't justify that with my own experiences because I haven't tried it.

Lavender oil and manuka honey (or just honey if you don't have manuka) applied onto the scar can also help heal it.

Above these topical treatments, it is important to maintain a healthy diet to maintain healthy skin. Eat foods high in fish oil, vitamin A, and vitamin E, and avoid nightshade vegetables (like eggplant), lactose, or yeast, as it may (if you don't notice a change in the quality of skin, don't worry about avoiding these foods) irritate the skin more, hence hindering the healing process. Avocados are high in vitamin E and C, and they really do help skin to improve if eaten regularly. Above all, drink at least eight glasses of water a day, aim for more if possible (but don't drink to excess), and avoid sugary or preservative-laden drinks.

There are different types of pimples and they can leave different types of scars. The most serious type is cause by cystic pimples. These are characterized by a large painful cyst developing below the skin and if it is squeezed, the pore walls that are already stretched to contain the cyst can break. This leaves a permanent depression in the skin. The only thing that can be done to improve it's appearance is to have it treated by the dermatologist two to three times per year with injectable fillers. Most people with cystic acne are treating it under a doctor's care.

With a more usual type of pimple, a red mark is left behind that can take months to go away and it is sometimes replaced with a patch of skin that is darkened to a greater or lesser degree, called post-infammatory hyperpigmentation. Use of a cosmetic "lightening" or "brightening" cream can help with this, especially one with hydroquinone as an active ingredient. If you are particularly impatient, you can get hydroquinone in prescription strength from the dermatologist. It is often combined with other ingredients that make it even more effective. One such product is Tri-Luma. These creams are not usually covered by insurance plans so the cost must be borne out-of-pocket. However, if the scar is treated early, it can be gone or almost gone within a month.

- Well, first of all, the best thing for that is DO NOT SQUEEZE THEM. Tempting as it is and I know because I do it, too, sometimes....you will really be doing yourself more harm than good if you keep squeezing and picking. But for the scars you already have, try using Mederma and follow the directions exactly. Not a guarantee, but it MAY help. Also, to make pimples go away faster, try using Tea Tree Oil blemish stick, found at the Body Shop (a specialy store in malls)...followed by some of Mario Badescu's drying lotion. Smells nasty (I think there's Calamine lotion in it, among other things, but it works). There's a website for that product -do a Google search and you should find it. I have a problem with those painful cyst-like blind pimples that can make the whole area swell up - it's lovely when I get one on my nose or chin! But if I use those products together at the first sign of a blind pimple, I have about 90-95% success at eliminating it before it gets any worse. Nothing before ever worked like that does for me, so I swear by it. Squeezing is one of the worst things you can do! Besides risking scarring, the bacteria infected puss just spreads into neighboring areas and causes more pimples. Also, you're touching your face with your oily hands to pop it and that's no good, either!

You can pop it more safely by sterilizing the area, use a sterile needle and gently prick a hole in it and let it drain (some gentle pressure may be in order with a clean cloth,) and cleansing the area again afterwards. The best thing is to keep it clean and let it dry up naturally though after a day or so--but who wants to do that on prom night?

Also, now products are labeled "noncomedogenic"-- which means they don't clog pores. Look for that when buying makeup, sunscreen, soaps, etc!!!

You don't say how old the "scar" is, but try a dab of neosporin for a few days. It should help the redness. When I have a pimple, I do the steps as noted above, and then put a dab of aloe vera on it.

For scars related with acne, pimples and chicken pox, you can try using Zenmed's Scars Treatment Kit which is very effective and can get rid of chicken pox scars within a month's time. So for scars left by pimples, it shouldn't take more than a week or so. The primary ingredients are purified water, glycolic acid, vitamin B5 and glycerin. These ingredients suit any type of skin and are safe to use.

One very easy tip to get red of with this type of scars is, take some Sandalwood powder and make a thin paste with water. At bed time wash your face with lukewarm water and apply this paste on scars. You can apply on full face also. Let it dry and leave it on overnight. Wash in the morning with lukewarm water. Repeat daily. It will take time but it will completely remove your scars or spots.

Take care of it! I've put neosporin cream and a band-aid on it at night while i sleep -- this helps heal it faster. Don't pick it or you may have a scar that takes much longer to heal.

What do you pop your pimple with?

Your not supposed to pop your pimples...it irritates them and makes it worse, you should start using an acne wash or pore purifier that will help a lot and they usually go away with age...but...if you absolutely insist on popping it then just take your your two thumbs put it around your pimple and squeeze until the puss comes out but if it starts to bleed then stop...also popping can leave pimple scars...i really don't recommend it...good luck!

White dot on some of your pimples what does this mean?

This is called a whitehead. It is pus building up from the inside of the pore. (As it reaches the surface, it is white so it gives the appearance of a small white bump usually in the center of the pimple.) Try to resist popping it, as this can cause it to become inflamed or infected. Both are NOT good! You can put on a tpoical acne cream to help it heal faster, but there is nothing to worry about. It is not dangerous. Washing your face with an oil-eliminating scrub a few times a week could help to minimize the occurance of whiteheads in the future.
