Its in the fuse block - underhood.......
The AC clutch cannot be replaced without physically removing the compressor on a 1997 Mercury Sable. The compressor and magnetic plate must be removed before you can access the clutch.
I am sure you can - but the clutch is abpout the same price as a rebuilt compressor. So last time i did this I bought the compressor, removed the cluth, and put it on my car compressor. I still have a compressor if I need one. Be sure your compressor is not locked up before you go buy anything.
The clutch has a bolt or nut in the center, connecting it to the compressor. After the nut is removed, the clutch can be removed by use of a gear puller.
The ac clutch is held on with a single nut, and can be removed with a remover tool. It the tool will not fit in the space available, then the entire compressor will have to be removed to replace the clutch.
The AC clutch on a ford FS-10 is mounted on the front of the compressor. The clutch is removed by using a puller after the clutch nut is taken off. Mount the puller, and turn the center bolt. This will pull the clutch off of the compressor shaft.
If the clutch disengages properly then the compressor should not be running. Most likely the clutch itself is bad instead of the compressor.
The AC clutch is on the front of the compressor where the belt rides. When power is applied to the clutch it engages to turn the compressor. It is basically a magnet a/c compressor clutch is the ound thing on the front of the compressor with pulley wheel attached. this clutch is an electro magnetic clutch that when electricity is supplied, engages so as the a/c compressor is driven ,which can then pump freon thru the ac system
The ac compressor clutch is mounted on the front of the compressor and is a replaceable part. However depending on the complexity of the clutch change out it may be overall better to change the compressor and clutch together.
I need to know the type of compressor (make) before I can answer that question.
It should be right on the front of the compressor - usually the clutch is inside the v-belt/serpentine pulley on the compressor
Bad A/C compressor clutch. Bad A/C compressor clutch.
