yes it dose
actually NO it Doesn't... i have a 2001 sportage limeted ex.. and my belt broke at 70,000 miles.. it runs a NON interference engine.. i towed it home replaced belt and away i went.. if im not mistaken it is one of the only engines that Mazda makes that is non interference.. as long as your Kia has 2.0 DOHC u will be fine.. just make sure to time it right...
if i remember correctly the 2001 still has an interference engine.....if your timing belt broke you surely pinged some valves.
yes
there is no timing belt sensor, only camshaft position sensors and crankshaft position sensor.
Yes, the 1999 Kia Sportage with 2.0L DOHC is an "interference" engine, meaning the valves can hit the pistons if the timing belt broke.
Yes. If the timing belt breaks severe damage will occur
this question has been answered under 2000 kia sportage timing belt replacement.
yes it does
all sportage up thru 2002 have timing belts.then they had a big model change.
This is an interference engine. If the timing belt snaps it will cause a loads of problems: bent valves, damaged pistons, damaged cam shaft. Replace the belt every 60,000 miles.
Bent valves are very common.
timing chain
This being a non-interference engine there's no such risk.
