Oatmeal is often grown and / or processed near wheat making the chances of cross contamination high. It is possible to buy gluten-free oats where extra attention has gone into assuring there has not been any gluten contamination. Bob's Red Mill and Trader Joe's are two brands that have GF oatmeal.

No, oatmeal does not contain gluten, but it has the chemical avenin (which is similar to the prolamines that cause an allergic reaction to gluten). Some people with celiac disease are able to eat oats, others are not. There are also different varieties of oats, some of which have lower amounts of avenin.

I'd suggest looking at the packaging of oats before buying. If it doesn't say "gluten free," don't buy it. Companies that sell gluten-free products (especially those that sell them exclusively) are dedicated to keeping gluten out of the products, so I'd trust them more than other companies.

Oats (rolled or otherwise) are not wheat; those are two separate forms of grain. Rolled oats is still oats, it's just been modified by a feed mill to make them more digestible to the animals they are fed to, be it horses, hogs or cattle.

Are whole wheat and whole grain the same thing?

Don't assume that "whole grain" is something other than wheat. Read the labels. There are whole grains that are not wheat - rice, corn, oats - but most whole grain breads include wheat. If you cannot eat wheat because of the gluten, then you need to become familiar with other grains that you should avoid - which might include rye and barley or even oats.
