go to the Pontiac dealership and see the parts man and he can help you out on that.
you will have to take the console out or at least the top piece of the console and then you will see the shifter is bolted to the floor.
A person can get an exploded diagram of the steering column shifter for this car in its maintenance manual. It can also be found in the repair manual.

Usually it is located on the shifter inside the console. You have to disassemle the console around the shifter to get to it.
You can get an exploded view of most transmissions from the transmission manufacturer. Many auto-parts stores will provide an exploded view of transmissions.

The 2000 model Nissan central locking unit is located in the center console, next to the shifter. The center console will need to be removed in order to view the locking unit.
The move was made from the console to the shifter some time during the 1985 production run. It was moved to the top of the shift knob.

The 2002 Jaguar center console is held in place with six retaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts and the shifter knob. The center console will lift upward.
