The only thing controlled by the cars computer on a TH700R4 is the lock-up. You will need this if you are towing, otherwise stay in OD(overdrive). The other wires are for the reverse lights. There is also a computer controlled version of the TH700R4 but is known as a 4L60e.
The early 700R4 transmissions had a cable drive speedo. Maybe you can swap the tail housing and gears over.

yes. all 2wd 700r4 transmissions are the same length. The only things to remember are that Chevrolet only transmissions will not bolt up to Buick, Pontiac, Olds or Cadillac engines and that some 700r4 transmissions used a plastic speedometer gear set and some use an electronic magneto setup. The previous answerer stated that trucks used a different length tail shaft. This only applies to th350 and th400.
If you have an automatic with overdrive then there is a good possibility that it is the 700R4 transmission.
