∙ 9y agoThe term is not used in English law, a 16 or 17 year old minor achieve emancipation in England by one of the following mechanisms;
1) Marriage. (with parental consent)
2) Military Enlistment (with parental consent)
3) Court order. (minor must prove complete monetary and emotional self-sufficiency AND that the home environment is "entirely unsuitable"). Failure to meet the "unsuitability" test will not result in emancipation. Failure to meet the "self-sufficiency" test will result in being transferred to the house of another relative.
