The Planet of the Apes movie series should be watched from the date produced. In fact that is the only correct way to view this movie series. This ape movie series is not like Star Wars where the prequels were produced after the ending.
Follow this order and it will work out. The first two movies produced has the deceased famous actor Charlton Heston involved.
'The Planet of the Apes' (1968).
'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' (1970).
'Escape from the Planet of the Apes' (1971).
'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes' (1972).
'Battle for the Planet of the Apes' (1973).
All other movies like Tim Burton's 'The Planet of the Apes' (2001) and the new film 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' (2011) are all remakes.
And 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' (2014)

It is unlikely, as the Planet of the Apes can generally rise only once. There may be a sequel though; quite probably there will be.
In the late 1960's and early 1970's the movies of the original series were released in five installments.
Planet of the Apes, February 8, 1968
Beneath the Planet of the Apes, May 26, 1970
Escape from the Planet of the Apes, May 21, 1971
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, June 29, 1972
Battle for the Planet of the Apes, June 15, 1973
Later it was followed by two short lived television series, Planet of the Apes that ran in fourteen episodes from September to December 1974, and the animated series Return to the Planet of the Apes that ran in thirteen episodes from September 1975 to September 1976.
The new movies do not directly coincide with the original series movies. While there are loose connections between Planet of the Apes (1968) and Planet of the Apes (2001), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) more closely coincides with Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), but is obviously not a remake; the two barely share any elements of plot.
The making of a second movie to follow Tim Burton's 2001 venture ten years after the fact seems to indicate that there is intent to continue with a third and perhaps a fourth or fifth movie. From the juxtaposition of the chronology of the 2001 and 2011 movies, however, it would seem only likely that a third movie can be made, with a slim potential for a fourth.
There was no Planet of the Apes TV show in 1968. It was a movie in 1968, and the lady ape was named Zira.
There was a 1974 live action television series. 'Kira' was played by Jacqueline Scott.
There was also a 1975 animated television series. 'Dr. Zira' was voiced by Philippa Harris.
Sort of. In the original Planet of the Apes series, Caesar is the original intelligent ape. But in the future, Caesar is the baby that Dr. Zira has when she goes back in time. Thus unfolds the cyclical nature of the story.
In Rise of the Planet of the Apes Caesar revolts to begin the process of Apes taking over.
The movie "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is already out since summer 2011.
The lesson is that there is a curse which goes with being the highest form of life on a planet. It is an arrogance which says that no other life can possibly be higher. The human astronaut knows this belief is false, and so does the audience, but the apes will not believe it. The arrogance of the apes is a metaphor for human arrogance.

"Cornelia" was named in tribute to Cornelius, played by Roddy McDowall in the original 1968/1970 Version of Planet of the Apes (Cornelia was also the name of wife of Gaius Julius Ceasar). The movie Rise of the Apes insinuated a romance between Ceasar and Cornelia, I guess they were trying to explain the ancestry of Cornelius?
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes released in Summer 2014.
Previous to that was Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The ending of the Planet of the Apes (2001) movie was left intentionally ambiguous. The prevailing theory is that General Thade beat Mark Wahlberg back in time and somehow managed to take over.
Grace Stewart was played by Nicole Kidman, and I must say that she gave quite a performance.
Apes come in many different heights depending on the species.
The tallest of apes (other than humans) is the male adult gorilla - average height 1.7 to 1.8 m (5.6 to 5.9 ft). Male adult oranguatan are about the same heights, but slightly less heavy.
