I cant answer but one of your questions by my knowlege.
There isn't a "drain" for transmission pans. you have to take the entire pan off as far as i know . on newer cars they might have changed it. Its pretty common to change the filter when you change the fluid. When your in there its just as easy to just pop that filter off and put a new one in.. right before i read this i posted something on a site about changing one so I'll paste it
" well by working in a shop.. i know its diffrent when its 6 feet in the air.. but you start by breaking the seal on the bolts and then start unscrewing from one side and go around.. and once you start doing that the fluid up to the level of the rim of the pan is out and plus some since the pan is leaning down then carefully unscrew the last bolt and then lower it down and drain the fluid... then take your filter off.. new one in.. best to wash the pan in solvent ( kerosene based solvent is what we used in a parts washer but you wont have that.. ) then clean the magnet off best you can and then replace the magnet.. new seal on and bolts back up to specific torque and your done.. get back top side and filler up "
there ya go
