My 2001 F 150 XLT 4x4 does the same thing and it has been getting worse. Today I discovered that it is my A/C clutch sticking and unsticking as the engine speed changes.
Tomorrow I'll be sliding under the beast to see if the clutch needs to be replaced, or if it has bearing that can be greased, or maybe just a belt replacement and tensioner adjustment. We'll see.... at least I finally found the source of the squeal!
Now it's either $44 for a belt or $155 for a new A/C clutch (or both)
The serpentine belt tensioner is not adjustable. If a new or 'young' belt is loose, likely the tensioner is going to have to be replaced.2 other causes of squealing are a worn belt, or if the surface of the belt has become glazed are a couple of causes of squealing.NOTE: The belt tensioner has a built-in wear indicator - it'll be hard to see, but there really are markings on the side to indicate when the spring is weakening and not holding the belt tight to the pullies.See "Related Questions" below for more
Sounds like a loose or worn belt, alternator or fan tends to do that when they get worn or loose.
When the engine 4jg2 starts then its stops it is due to a mechanical failure.
vacuum leak?
Because it is a piece of crap. I have the same car and it does the same thing. - Update - You may need a new belt... they are supposed to be changed every 30,000 but will last a little longer, sometimes 60,000 before the squeel starts. break pads also squeel when they are low. Bad Bearings in the A/C compressor could cause this too. My 98 ZX2 has this problem. Only thing to do is replace the compressor. I had the same problem and I changed the tensioner pully.
I experienced this same problem before too. The security system could be the problem. The imobaliser shuts of the car if it thinks there is a problem with the ignition(if it was hotwired).
It's probably the belt slipping. Check for belt tension. When an engine first starts the alternator works harder to recharge the battery. During that time, the alternator is harder to turn and if the belt isn't tight enough there can be some slipping between the belt and the pulley.
Possibly that the tensioner is bad or the belt glazed.
It is a common problem for shevy. Usually the Fuel regulator. Or for other vehicles it could be a dirty fuel filter
It depends on what car and engine you have. Just guessing, I would check the fuel pump relay if it has one.
When the engine first starts, the alternator puts out a little extra current to recharge the battery. If the tensioner pulley is a little loose, the belt will slip on the alternator, making a terrible sound. Check/replace the tensioner. The spring is probably loose.
have brakes check
