is the engine VIN 6? did you check timing marks with #4 at TDC rather than #1? is the air gap correct? did you set the firing order counter-clockwise? do you have injector pulse? bad dist.cap/ignition rotor? fuel pressure correct? cold start injector working? I would check for any stored codes as well. Jump the 1 and 3 terminals on the white ALDL connector behind passenger kick panel. Watch the Check Engine Light flash for any 2 digit diagnostic codes. if you have code(s), go from there. even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile Check the injector pulse and fuel. I just had a 91 Storm 1.6L, VIN 6, with spark, in time, with injector pulse, fuel & pressure, all components in range with correct voltage. wouldn't start. It was bad gas.
Maybe, or maybe not. Tell them to check the A/T fluid.
Sounds like maybe the timing belt/timing chain broke or jumped. If it will not run at all, I'd guess broke.
Ever checked the transmission fluid levels? That can only be checked while the engine is running and at normal operating temperature. The tranny fluid could also be contaminated and need flushing - be sure to change the transmission filter, too.
