A81 should be January 8, '71,'81,'91.
those numbers are the date that it was built k=month .... 24=day ..... 5=year November 24 1965 or 1975

you need the date code on the side of the block it will be a series of numbers and letters first its the month, then day, then year
The casting number is on the passenger side of the block.Right above the starter.You may have to remove the starter to see it.
Casting numbers on top of the bellhousing flange and the suffix number on the block deck in front of the passenger side head. The casting numbers will tell you which block casting you have. The suffix will tell you what HP rating it had, what it was likely installed in, and what transmission was mated to it.

That is the number of the block. It was used to build 302, 327, and 350 engines in 2 or 4 bolt main from 1969-1980. There is a machined pad on the passenger side of the block just in front of the cylinder head that should have a combination of letters and numbers that can provide information about the horsepower and application. on the back of the block where the belt housing bolts on and also on the front in front of the passenger side head there is a ledge that has a number there unless the block has been decked
The ID# is stamped on a pad at the front of the block, near the passenger side head. You can write the number down and look for it at Mortec.com. Most Chevrolet engines are listed there. there is a casting number on the block, usually on the side. the casting no. can tell you where ,and when the block was made. you might have to look the no. up in a Chevy casting no. book, or your Chevy dealer might be able to look it up on the computer,if they are willing to spend the time. the casting no. and the ID no. that the above answer talks of are not the same, although they can both give you the info. you want.
On the drivers side near the bell housing is cast with the model number. It is fairly large. Just above that, near the head, is the serial number. It will be 7 digits. On the passenger side, the block casting number is visible just aft of the injection pump. It will be 5 digits.
