The million man march on Washington took place on October 16, 1995 around the National Mall. The march was organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
It was to protest racial discrimination and segregation in the war and defense industries.

Asa Philip Randolph was a leader for the African-American Civil Rights movement. He also organized the first predominantly black labor union, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. He also led the March on Washington Movement in 1941.
It showed that more legislation was needed to support civil rights.
