due to bad design of the actual switch.... the ball and spring arrangement will push the plastic apart when the switch warms up. the only thing you can do is rebuild the switch assbly by removing the cover over the controls and CAREFULLY removing the switch. You'll have to separate it at the dash... there's not much wire to work with but you can take it apart and then clean it up, regrease the ball and multiposition switch, and reassemble it.... I used heavy Duct Tape to hold the switch together after dong this job 3 times and replacing the switch once. you might be able to get a very small screw to run into the plastic pieces to help hold them together... the spring that holds the ball is the real culprate.
how can I cheek the heater fan on my 1990 geo metro to see if it is bad or if the switch is bad. I want come on at all when you turn the switch on check fuses and they are good.
If you are referring to the blower motor resistor, it is located behind the glove box and in the heater case.
The heater inlet hose on a 92 Geo Metro is located in the rear of the engine compartment. It runs through the firewall and connects to the heater.
The blower fans on these cars run very quietly on all but the maximum setting- ensure that the fan is really not working first by holding your hand in front of the vent with the fan on low and checking that is it not moving any air. Replace the resistor pack.
Inside the plastic box beside your blower motor under the dashboard on the passenger side. A real big pain in the rear to replace. Probably plan to spend most of the day on it.
The Blower is mounted under the passenger side glove box high on the firewall
Many are in the air duct near the blower motor.
It is your blower motor regulator, the contacts have worn out with age which is why the setting you most like used the least was the last one working, it is a cheap replacement if you can do it yourself. But you will have to get behind the dash in most cases.
