Ideally car needs to be on a ramp, but jack and stands will do as long as it is level and secure. There will be a plug, usually 13mm spanner size,on the outboard side of the transmission fairly close to a drive shaft. Remove this "level"plug,if oil just runs out or can be felt with a finger then level is ok.If low you need to add oil until it starts to run from the level plug. Depending on the transmission, oil is added through the screw off breather on top of g'box or perhaps the reverse lamp switch.
