It is not true. Muslims are still following the right path of Islam per teachings of Qur'an holy book and Sunnah (Prophet Muhammad's sayings and practices). There may be some Muslims who are just Muslims by name and know nothing about Islam. The same as in all other religions including Christianity and Judaism.

The majority of people who identify as Muslims are not deviated from the proper path as discussed in Answer 1. The extremist minority that wishes to use violence to advocate for its perspective is deviated from the proper path since they choose particular Qur'anic verses that they wish to emphasize at the expense of other Qur'anic verses. Failure to accept and act upon the entirety of the Qur'an would cause any Muslim to deviate from the proper path.
