Taking care of horses is a lot of work, I've been around horses for more than half of my life, and I'm fourteen now. I can understand how exciting and cool it would be for you to own a horse, but you should always think of the animal before yourself. If you don't have enough money to buy a horse, should you really? They're very high maintenance, from shoeing and farrier visits, veterinary appointments, feed and supplements, and tack, it's very expensive. If you're interested in horses and you don't have much experience, I suggest finding a reliable, trusted stable and taking lessons. The internet is also a good source of information, as it provides almost everything but hands-on experience with the animal. If you do know a bit, (you can always know more!) and have a stable you ride at regularly, (If you live in the Sacramento/Loomis area in California, I HIGHLY recommend Knicker Knob Stables) you should see if you can volunteer to groom, exercise, or clean there. In the summer at my stable, my trainer even offers to pay me for the stalls I clean. You should also know about the diets for horses, like the differences of grass-hay, alfalfa, or other feeds, what kinds of horses should get which, etc. I know it's a lot, but there is a lot to learn about horses before owning them. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to email me and I'll gladly answer them. :) Sorry if I seemed a bit serious, I hope I didn't scare you off!

Happy Trails!

How big is an ideal horse pasture?

A horse pasture should have enough space to graze as well as space to run. One horse is 1.5 AUs, so depending on your locality, pasture quality, time of year, etc., you could pasture one horse per 2 acres or more per month.
