If struggled with this too... it really doesn't matter if you use survey monkey or have a survey or poll on a blog- you still have to assure the survey takers they they are totally anonymous. A good way to provide this assurance is to use an anonymous messaging service like SilentSender.com - I am placing a link below to a Squidoo article that explains how to setup a website or blog with an anonymous survey, you could apply the same techniques to other surveying and polling methods.
