The cover for the instrument pod that the compass is in is held on by several screws. They are covered by small "buttons" and are towards the front top on both sides. Pry off the buttons (carefully) and you will be able to access the screws. Note that the same bulb is available at any auto parts store for 1/3rd the price Misubish wants for them.
Drive it into your favorite oil change station and tell them your light is out. Within 15-minutes they'll do the work for you. Last time I needed a bulb changed it cost me about $10 for parts and labor.

Open the hood to the engine compartment. Take hold of the headlight light bulb connector. Push the connector in and turn it at the same time. The headlight light bulb will come out. Reverse the process to install the new light bulb.
To change the headlights on a 2005 Mitsubishi Colt, make sure there is no damage on the wire clip. Pull the bulb out gently. Slip in the new bulb and turn it until there is a click. Then put the clip back on.
I am guessing brake lights? But there are two screws inside of the truck that need to be removed - freeing the light (all but the wires) you will then need to remove the bulb by twisting counter clockwise.
Your owners manual will describe the procedure.
Because there is a short in the bulb. Bang on the dash just above the light and see if it comes back on, mine did.
