Suggest starting by contacting the VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America); possibly they might be able to help.
Unless he can produce a DD-214 (discharge paper), or unless he's a member of some vet organization (VVA, VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, etc.), or unless he has a VA card (Veterans Administration Hospital)...or if the man was killed in Vietnam, he'll most surely be listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

Go to search 3. Type in the man's last name and hit search. 4. You'll get a whole list of names, just roll thru them until the get the name you want. 5. Once you find him, hit "personal information", then how he died will show. In GEN Bond's case it said "enemy hostile fire, small arms."

Cannot find any reference to anyone by that name on multiple lists of names on the Vietnam Wall.
Go to the web site of the National Archives. It will be pretty hard without a last name. Another possibility is to look at the Viet Nam Vets sites. Some of them may be able to help with identification of units and locations from photographs for Viet Nam and uniforms.
