How can you have more than one wife?

In most modern Western cultures, it is not legal to be married to more then one person at a time. It must be kept in mind however that there are other society's in the world where having more then one wife is not illegal and the number of women you can take as wife is limited to what you can afford. This is not cheating this is just the way it is. even in a biblical sence there is no problem with having more then one wife.

Having multiple spouses (husbands or wives) is known as polygamy (pol-LIG-amy).

A marriage of one man and multiple wives is called polygyny (pol-LIJ-any). In the USA (and most other countries) it is not legal for anyone to have more than one spouse at a time. However, in some countries it depends on local religion and tradition (Indonesia permits it under certain conditions: if the persons' religion allows it; if the spouses agree; can he afford it, etc.) In some developing nations, local tribal customs also support it.)

Having more than one wife is ok, but only 4, before in the time of the prophet people used to have more than 10 wives so Islam has actually lowered it to 4 wives.

"Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one." [Al-Qur'an 4:3]
