I can't fathom why anyone of sound mind would want to make a dog fierce. If you are looking for a protection dog you should consult a highly qualifies trainer. If your are looking to create a fighting ddog keep in mind that this is illegal and cruel to all animals involved.

If you torment a dog, abuse it, yell at it, or it has bad experiences with things it will become a fear biter. I hope you ask this to know how to not make your dog vicious. A fightig dog is a tear in someone's eye, a cut on someone's thumb, a hole in someone's heart. - erin

Creating a vicious dog is dangerous and irresponsible. If your dog harms anyone, you will be held liable. Owning a dangerous dog can result in exorbitant fines and jail time if anyone is injured by your dog.

If you want your dog to protect you, treat him well. Bond with him. He will love you so much, his life's goal will be to keep you safe.

How do you make a dog fierce enough to protect the owner? This is a scary question and I feel the asker is misguided in their reason for having a pet. If you try to make a dog fierce they will likely turn on you one day. That said, a well trained and well cared for dog will always protect their owner if they sense that there is a threat. My grandfather had a dog that was an amazingly sweet and loving dog, but boy would he turn vicious when knew there was trouble. The dog thwarted a break-in on one occasion and even saved my Grandfather by distracting a bear while on a hunting trip.

I'm no professional by any means, i've just owned several dogs of different breeds that have all been protective. All my dogs have always been well socialized and loved people and other dogs and honestly i never thought of any of them as "protective". However without fail all of them would show agression or a protective nature when they felt someone was threatening me, or i showed agression, or if a person showed guilt so to speak about being somewhere they shouldn't be. For example a man came to take a tree out of our back yard and just decided to walk into our back yard without even comming to the door. I saw from the window my dog ran up to him very happily to say hi because it was a new person, however when the man saw the dog he turned and ran for the gate, as soon as my dog saw this sign of guilt so to speak or realizing the man knew he shouldn't be there he became agressive and barked and chased him the rest of the way out. All that to say, i really don't believe it's something you need to "teach". I believe that when you love your dog and show it how much you love it and it knows ur it's owner and family it will naturally protect those it cares about and those that protect him/her. If that makes sense. That's just been my experience.

Be stupid.

Don't listen to what the guy above said. I honestly don't know why you would want your dog to be aggressive towards others but it may all depend on many different factors. Things like breed, temperment, and environment will determine whether your dog is aggressive towards other dogs. If your current dog isn't aggressive towards other dogs like you want it to be, maybe you have the wrong breed. Buy yourself a pitt.

If you have a dog which seems cowardly, I think that what you might need to do is teach the dog to have confidence--not ferocity.

First off, how old is your dog? Dogs go through two "fear" phases, the first one happens when the dog is from 8 - 11 weeks old. The second happens when the dog is 6 - 14 months. Or, it can happen if you move the dog from its known environment to a different environment.

The best way to help your dog transition through these fears is to train them, obedience is a great way to begin. If your dog learns basic commands, that can certainly help it gain some confidence, which could help it through the timidity.

Another idea, find yourself a wonderful dog trainer/behaviorist who can help you identify and work with your dog to help it gain skills to pass through this fear/timidity.

A good place to find a dog trainer/behaviorist would be to go to your local animal shelter and get recommendations from them, go to a local breed rescue group, they often also have people that they know and trust.

The last thing to do would be to attempt to make your dog "fierce" because all you will end up with is a timid, afraid, scared, aggressive dog--which translates into one which will bite! That is not a good idea at all.

Roll up some newspaper, wrap it with Duct Tape, thicker the better. You know what to do next, it might bark at first, but it'll always remember. Next time you grab it.
